Chaplaincy

Since 2016, Andy has served the players, coaches and staff a few days each week. He attends training sessions, leads a weekly group bible study, facilitates pregame chapels for both the Union and visiting team, and meets individually with staff and players - helping spiritually-interested guys grow in their Christian faith and resourcing all players and staff to become the best version of themselves and live with joy and gratitude.

Andy oversees the Union’s Associate Chaplain who serves UnionII and the youth academy. Like the first team, we have a weekly bible study at the Union’s Youth Residency House and meet individually with interested players and staff. We also support and resource the Union’s school partner, YSC, as they help youth players develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

Andy leads a weekly Bible study for the front office staff, helping them pursue meaning and purpose in their work and bring glory to God in the office, in the stadium, and in their families and neighborhoods.

Andy leads chaplaincy for the federation, setting direction on how to serve our country’s top players and staff and interfacing with US Soccer representatives on how to best care for men and women and help them flourish and achieve their greatest potential. In this role, he oversees the hiring, training, collaboration, and service of all the chaplains that serve US Soccer. This growing collective of chaplains currently ministers to 7 of the 27 teams and we are actively laboring to resource the additional 20 teams that are not yet served.

Andy has served as the team chaplain since 2021. He travels with the team and ministers to the players and staff in camp during their training and competitions. Many players in this pool compete for overseas clubs and have little to no opportunity to connect with a local church or chaplain. He leads worship, prayer, and discussion times for players and staff and mentors players and their families in an ongoing way when they’re playing for clubs around the world.
